A Tribute

Mildred P. Hughes

After retiring as a teacher in the Wise County Public Schools, Mildred worked as a volunteer at the Gift Shop at Wise Appalachian Regional Hospital in Wise until its closure.  She then began work as a volunteer at the Wise County Historical Society which includes the preparation of the Appalachian Quarterly for mailing.  She also indexed The Heritage of Wise County and the City of Norton, Volume II and works on Thursday in the Historical Society's office at the Courthouse in Wise.

Her interest and hobbies include working on the computer, and in her flower garden, genealogy, crocheting and knitting.  Mildred is serving her second term on the Town of Wise Planning Commission.

Mildred is married to Elmer Hughes and they have two sons, David B. and Paul W. Hughes and two grandsons.  They make their home in Wise.
